Elderly health-care seekers may very soon be able to choose which nursing homes to visit and which to avoid, in much the same fashion as choosing any other consumer service. A recent government-run survey culminated in a 5-star rating system that shows how many nursing homes in the US rank high in quality and how many fare poorly. The survey also threw up a surprise by revealing that some for-profit nursing homes have earned only a single star.
