FDA to get a new permanent Commissioner
It has come to the knowledge that the President Barack Obama is contriving to put forward erstwhile Health Commissioner of New York City Margaret Hamburg to head the Food and Drug Administration. Well, this is not all and is a part of the news. It has also been found, thanks to the exclusive sources of some premier newspapers in the realm of the United States of America, Health Commissioner of Baltimore will become Hamburg’s chief deputy. It should be remembered that Baltimore health commissioner Joshua Sharfstein led the Obama administration’s transition team for the FDA.
The selection of Hamburg, first reported on The Wall Street Journal’s website, was expected to be announced this week. However neither there has been any official reaction from Hamburg yet nor she could be reached at the Nuclear Threat Initiative, where she is working as a consultant. Whatever it is, a considerable section of public health officials and experts have appreciated the reported choice of Hamburg to the post, which ought to bag confirmation of the Senate.
One of them happens to be Jean Halloran, Director of Food Policy Initiatives at Consumers Union, who said, “There are few jobs in the federal government that are as tough or important as FDA commissioner.” “Dr. Hamburg’s nomination would mean that FDA would have the leadership it needs at a time when it faces huge challenges.”
There is also another person named Bill Vaughan. He is a Consumers Union health analyst who has also welcomed the news in a hearty manner. What’s more he said that his group wants to work with Hamburg to modify the way the FDA approves medicines. He said emphatically, “In recent years, the agency has been too slow to protect consumers and too willing to give industries a pass on safety.”
There was not the presence of any permanent commissioner in FDA for more than half of former President Bush’s eight years in office.
