Recession leads to diminution in US health care budgets

It’s getting ever more difficult for the United States of America to find out innovative and apposite ways to deal with the ominous effects of existent downturn. The reasons for this situation are not far to see. The devastating effects of recession on several key sectors like real estate became evident within days. But the effects have entered the health sector by now and according to experts, worse is yet to come. What has contributed to the rise of this situation? Well, they happen to be recession-related pressures and the Sacramento County in the state of California has been found to be one of the worst affected regions (in this regard) in the entire country.

What is the current situation in Sacramento County? It has been learnt that the county, thanks to intolerable pressures of slump, made a drastic reduction in non-emergency health services to illegal immigrants of late. Well, this feature is present not only in the Sacramento county and the nearby Contra Costa County has become an easy prey of recession as well. Contra Costa County is above all a suburban county in the San Francisco Bay Area of the U.S. state of California.

What will it do therefore? It, as has been found, will vote Tuesday on whether to cut services to the 5,000 illegal immigrants they serve each year. Speaking on this, Robert M. Pestronk, Executive Director of the National Association of County and City Health Officials told, “The general situation there is being faced by nearly every health department across the country, and if not right now, shortly.”

It should be remembered that the local health systems in other states too are facing such decisions in view of the fact that federal, state and local funding streams decline and the number of newly uninsured who need services grows.

The estimation of Pew Hispanic Center must be taken into account in this context. According to its assessment, almost 59% of the 11.9 million illegal immigrants living in the US have no health insurance — about 15% of the approximately 47 million uninsured.

Gee. And we wonder why we are bankrupt. The figures would actually be more alarming if the pc crowd did away with the don’t ask, don’t tell policy of not requiring documentation for eligibility to receive services funded by taxpayers. Let alone the millions of anchor babies who further skew the numbers as “eligible” new citizens. Most of us in healthcare feel that the numbers are much higher among illegal receiving “uncompensated” care in addition to the overt fraud among aliens who use Medicaid cards of relatives without “fear”. The medical records are astounding with multiple patients using one Medicaid ID (tell that to the immigration lawyers). Anyone who thinks that healthcare will become less expensive by universal government coverage while leaving the borders open to the flood of Third World aliens is someone who is smoking some bad weed. On top of all this idiocy, is the LA City Council who is demanding that stalls be built for illegal alien day laborers. Sure, invite them all to stay, take American jobs, pop out some more anchor babies and then ask where the money is for Americans.

  2. Illegals Suck

America is not responsible for the health and well-being of illegal aliens. They are not even to be in this country let alone expect us to give them free healthcare. We need to start worrying about Americans and legal citizens, not lawbreakers. Let them go back to their own country and have them cure their ills. Perhaps if the illegals find out their gravy train is drying up, they will either self deport or not come at all. Enforce our immigration laws and deny illegals any and all benefits
