Texas children remain in need of health insurance

Each and every state (adhering to any ideology) has a definite responsibility to its citizens. The state being the premier institution of the society bears the task of saving the lives along with the professions of the citizens. Well, though this is an established practice, many states are failing to make their deeds compatible with the existing scenario. Texas, the second largest state and located in southwestern United States on the Gulf of Mexico happens to be one of them.

Nevertheless, the leaders of the state are leaving no stone unturned to reach culmination in this respect. In this regard, recently, the Greater Houston Partnership, in collaboration with the Metro 8 Chambers of Commerce, hosted nearly 200 area business leaders at the Federal Reserve Bank-Houston Branch. The subject of the venue was the uninsured children in Texas.

According to a number of relevant studies, the state of Texas remains atop the list regarding the rate of uninsured children with 22 percent. What does this indicate? It brings to us a grim picture that 1.5 million children remain without any health care coverage for the time being. What is the social background of these children? Well, they hail from working class of the region where both childhood and youth are regarded as worst crimes. What is the condition of other leading cities in the world? Well, as stated by studies, cities of countries like Japan, Canada are much better.

There is another problem. It should be remembered that more than half of the state’s uninsured children are at present eligible for Medicaid or Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) but they are not enrolled.

What should be done therefore? Extensive measures should be taken to make people conscious. They must keep in mind that CHIP and Medicaid are a wise investment for Texas children and local taxpayers. For every $1 invested in CHIP, Texas receives $2.52 in federal matching funds. For every $1 invested in Medicaid, Texas receives $1.47 in federal matching funds.

The whole project is beneficial and above all is best for the child’s health.
