General Electric Company, or GE, the globally acclaimed multinational American technology and services conglomerate has come to the fore with a new technology in the form of micro-holographic storage material and according to its own revelations, this could result in the capacity to store 500 GB of data on a standard DVD-size disc in next to no time. It has to be mentioned that this technology is the outcome of the arduous endeavor of GE Global Research, the technology development arm of the General Electric Co. and it also differs from the existing optical storage like Blu-ray and DVD, which is adept to store data only on the surface of the disc.

Information Technology in India, at the moment, accounts for a considerable part of the country’s GDP and export earnings while providing employment to a significant number of its tertiary sector workforce. In the midst of these, according to the latest information from the government, it is in the process of drafting the regulations of the IT Act (Amended) 2008. It is to be noted that this single Act keeps an eye on information technology- related activities all over the country. The same information has also been affirmed by IT Special Secretary R Chandrasekhar who told the press and media, “We are in advanced stages of drafting. Notification of these will be issued in the next few months.”

What is the condition of India amid this worldwide crisis of swine flu? The question is quite obvious since the situation of healthcare in this potential “superpower” is not even satisfactory. Really? Yes it’s true. Though the country has been able to eradicate mass famines, half of Indian children (if not more) are underweight and this happens to be one the highest rates in the global arena. Both of water supply and sanitation in India continue to be abysmal. This is evident from the fact that only one of three Indians has access to improved sanitation facilities for instance toilet.

Swine flu is appearing to be deadlier than even Al-Qaida! While the international community is armed and fully prepared to contend with the later menace, it seems to be perplexed and susceptible before the first. This acute and highly contagious respiratory disease of swine caused by the orthomyxovirus thought to be the same virus that caused the 1918 influenza pandemic has already created uproar in the global arena and more and more countries are coming within its reach. All these have made the World Health Organization (WHO) enter the scenario and raise the infectious disease alert level to phase 5, setting the stage for increased efforts to combat the infection.
