High concentration of lead in women’s accessories affects human health
This is, without a doubt, a sensational revelation and more researches in the coming days can lead to more astounding disclosures. In accordance with the prudence of the Center for Environmental Health, a large number of vinyl and faux leather women’s products from foremost retailers, certainly not less than a dozen, consist of high levels of lead.
In this regard the Center for Environmental Health was engaged in thorough examination for over few weeks at a stretch. What did it find? The center came across high presence of lead in handbags, purses and wallets from Bay Area outlets of chains. These included Macy’s, Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, Sears, JCPenney and Ross. On the other hand brands with lead traces consisted of Nine West, Xhilaration and Rosetti.
The name of Center for Environmental Health and its outstanding activities are not new and from the outset it is engaged in protecting people from toxic chemicals and promotes business products and practices that are safe for public health and the environment. The center has its own vision as well and for that reason it works in pursuit of a world in which all people live, work, learn, and play in healthy environments.
It also has a firm conviction that by means of working together government, community members, NGOs, and responsible businesses can eradicate the mounting threat to human health posed by toxic chemicals and environmentally irresponsible business practices.
Now, as far as the studies are concerned, only five of the 21 retailers visited by the Center for Environmental Health were found with safe products. The others, according to the group, were convicted for violating state standards for lead exposure under California’s Proposition 65 consumer protection law.
It’s shocking to know that some items had lead levels up to 90 times higher than the federal standard. Keep in mind that the federal standard limits lead in paint to 600 ppm.
