Verizon Foundation awards New England Tech grant worth $5000

It feels great to state that Verizon Foundation has awarded New England Institute of Technology, the FIRST Technical Challenge Affiliate Partner for Rhode Island, a grant worth $5000. How will be the grant used? It has been found that the $5,000 grant will be used to support the Rhode Island High School FIRST Technical Challenge.

New England Institute of Technology happens to be a private, accredited, non-profit technical college that has become well-known through offering Associate’s and Bachelor’s of Science degrees in 31 programs generally geared toward persons already in the work force like some 3,000 such similar institutions in the United States. The institution was established in 1940 and from that time on it is has been operating on a four-quarter per year program at ten weeks per quarter. This allows one to obtain an Associate’s Degree in one and one half years or a Bachelor’s Degree in three years. It is commonly referred to as New England Tech.

The school is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Moreover, the Electronics program has been selected by the Federal Aviation Administration as an approved collegiate training center. The Automotive and Auto Body programs are certified at the master level by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) and have been selected as a Sikkins and PPG training site. New England Institute of Technology is the only authorized AutoDesk Premier Training Center in Rhode Island and is the only college in Rhode Island authorized as a NOVELL Educational Academic Partner.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), on the other hand, was founded by inventor Dean Kamen in order to inspire the young generation in the subject and application of science and technology. Speaking on the development Lillian McGee, Verizon, regional director, public affairs said, “By participating in the FIRST Tech Challenge, students learn to build self confidence and team building, while developing their knowledge and skills in areas of science, technology, engineering and math — qualities needed to help them exceed in the future.”
