Whatever may be the spate and brunt of the worldwide recession, Indian students have strong preferences for technological subjects still. This was proved again during the recently held one-day New Zealand Education Fair. The fair, which was organized by Raksam Study Abroad and held in Madurai on April 16, witnessed a good turnout of students. Lots of students, in addition, were found to show interest to know about the universities and colleges in that country. There was also a good presence of some government institutions in New Zealand who were quite impressed by the success. The representatives, as a result, were emboldened and they also explained the different courses offered, cost factor and a number of other aspects.

Do you know what protectionism is? It is a policy of imposing duties or quotas on imports in order to protect home industries from overseas competition and it seems that the same fervor is governing USA at present. It is not known yet how far the United States of America is serious of this but this is surely not a good sign for several countries including India. What makes India anxious? Bear in mind that Information Technology in India accounts for a substantial part of the country’s GDP and export earnings while providing employment to a significant number of its tertiary sector workforce. Furthermore, India’s growing stature in the information age enabled it to form close ties with both the United States of America and the European Union. USA’s protectionist measure is a great threat, therefore.

Can the loss of job make one sick? This question may appear to you as somewhat bizarre and you may start wondering of the relation between the two. But, if a recently published study is to be believed, it is a reality and there are, in fact, lots of reasons. GE, the internationally acclaimed innovative and diversified technology company, has come out with new initiative and has said that it will expend $3 billion over the next six years on healthcare innovation. What is the basic intention of this healthcare innovation? It has been learnt that the basic objective is to help provide better care to more people and at a more modest cost. On the other hand, GE will carry out $2 billion of financing and $1 billion in pertinent GE technology and content to make healthcare information technology and health in rural and unmerited areas a reality. It is to be noted that these investments are the foundation of GE’s healthymagination initiative which is found on the basis of global commitments of lessening costs, improving quality and expanding access for millions of people.

It has been learnt from the congressional officials that high level deliberations are going on among senators regarding a new government health insurance plan. What is the main focus at the moment then? Well, it has come to knowledge that three different designs of plans that middle-income Americans could buy into for the first time are being mulled over. What’s more, according to the same congressional officials, the senators are planning to deliberate them in a closed meeting in the very next week. It is to be noted that the details of the controversial plans have not been released yet.
