Whatever may be the extent of downturn and its brunt on the entire US economy, one state is resolute to follow its own way. It is West Virginia; a prominent state in east central United States and is leaving no stone unturned, in spite of crisis, to invest in the domain of science and technology. This firmness of the state became more apparent from Governor Joe Manchin who said that new national indicators depict West Virginia’s investments in science and research over the last few years are beginning to show results. India is known as the greatest specimen of spiritualism and also “unity in diversity” throughout the globe. There is hardly any doubt that these two have been great attributes of the country but there is another aspect. Indian civilization has also brought to the fore different theories of science along with scientists who deserve special mentions. Have you heard of Ayurveda? It is an ancient medical treatise summarizing the Hindu art of healing and prolonging life; sometimes regarded as a 5th Veda. It is also a glorious contribution of India and nowadays the influence of Ayurveda in the international arena doesn’t need any reference.

Do you have any idea of bone marrow? Bone marrow is the flexible tissue found in the hollow interior of bones. In adults, marrow in large bones produces new blood cells. It constitutes 4% of total body weight, i.e. approximately 2.6 kg (5.7 lbs.) in adults. What is more, there are two types of bone marrow: red marrow (consisting mainly of myeloid tissue) and yellow marrow (consisting mainly of fat cells). Red blood cells, platelets and most white blood cells arise in red marrow. Both types of bone marrow contain numerous blood vessels and capillaries.

Whatever may be the designs to stop its growing influence, H1N1 flu seems to be unabated and owing to this undaunted spirit, number of confirmed H1N1 flu cases worldwide is on the verge of reaching 10,000 as stated by the World Health Organization. It should be noted, at one fell swoop, the outbreak of this disease, generally known as swine flu, sickened 9,830 people and caused at least 79 deaths — mostly in Mexico. Well, skepticism exists on the exact number of affected people and some quarters believe the real number is much higher. Nevertheless, the human civilization is groping in darkness still.

Political squabbles between Republicans and Democrats in the realm of US is not unknown and it seems that the country is going to witness another set of bad blood although owing to different reason. Both are busy in having their respective health care plans and as per experts, this may lift up their acrimony to a new height. There is no doubt that Republican lawmakers outshined their adversary on health care reform this year but on account of clear majority the House and Senate Democrats may emerge victorious.
