Space technology compulsions bridge yesteryear enemies

Life changes and old order changes yielding place to new. Well, this is not all since along with the passing of years standpoints do change. These wise statements are best fitted for Vietnam that fought from 1959 to 30 April 1975 against USA-backed South Vietnam with an indomitable spirit. However, this is a different world where development and other core issues rule the show and all these have made the arch-enemies of yesteryears to enter a common front for the betterment.

You may be enquiring the reason behind unearthing these sordid issues. There is definitely a reason. It has been learnt that Vietnam is going to cooperate with NASA, independent agency of the United States government responsible for aviation and spaceflight, for the development of space technology. According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology, it is set to cooperate with the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration to build up a space legal framework and its first space technology research and development center.

On the word of Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Van Lang, who became instrumental ion leading Vietnam’s first delegation to NASA in April, the Vietnam’s Academy of Science and Technology and NASA will shortly come to a cooperation agreement on space technology development and application when a NASA’s delegation is sent to Vietnam in November.

It has come to the knowledge that NASA will present the country consultancy with regard to the construction of the Space Law along the lines of international laws, and the space center in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Zone in Hanoi.

It is to be noted, first satellite of Vietnam worth 300-million U.S. dollar, Vinasat 1, was produced under the auspices of the U.S. firm Lockheed Martin and after that launched by French company Arianespace in April 2008. It has 20 transponders and a life-span of 15 to 20 years.
