Can “Pleasure” restrain teen sex in Britain?
Let’s delve into this crucial factor at the very outset. What is teen sex? Are you comfortable with the term or does it seem as profanity? Whatever it is, there is no doubt that teen sex, refers to sexual feelings, behavior and development in adolescents and is a stage of human sexuality, has an alarming stage in Britain. In short, Britain has the highest rate of teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases are on the increase and these have already shocked the moralists to a great extent. Keep in mind, as per recently concluded researches, in Britain one in nine sexually active teens has chlamydia and 790,000 teens have sexually transmitted infections.
There is hardly any doubt that sexual interests among adolescents, like adults, can vary greatly and any sexual activity is associated with a number of risks, including sexually transmitted diseases (including HIV/AIDS) and unwanted pregnancy. Reason? Teens are not so matured to ascertain the danger and the decline starts from there. In 2006 The Independent newspaper reported that the biggest rise in sexually transmitted infections was in syphilis, which rose by more than 20 per cent, while increases were also seen in cases of genital warts and herpes.
How can this spate be checked? Well, Britain’s National Health Service consider it has got the right measure and hence it has introduced a message for teens: Sex can be fun. The new pamphlet is called “Pleasure” and has sparked some opposition from those who believe it encourages promiscuity among teens in a country that already has high rates of teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
Will the pamphlet bring about the desirable result? National Health Service is optimistic of this and Steve Slack, who helped produce the leaflet as Director of the Center for HIV & Sexual Health in Sheffield, said one goal is to help young people learn to resist peer pressure and delay having sex until they are emotionally ready. “Far from promoting teenage sex, it is designed to encourage young people to delay losing their virginity until they are sure they will enjoy the experience,” he said.
