New programs for Ivy Tech Community College get finally approved

Even though there were strong expectations from the very beginning, it feels good to state that the Indiana Commission for Higher Education has finally approved new programs for Ivy Tech Community College, Indiana’s community college system. It is to be noted that Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana is Indiana’s only community college system, encompassing 23 campuses in 14 regions and has, at the moment, in excess of 120,000 students.

Truly speaking, the Indianapolis-based system has been approved to proffer a new associate of applied science in health care support, in addition to certificates in pharmacy technician, patient care, phlebotomy technician, therapeutic massage and electrocardiography, according to a news release. Bear this in mind as well that the new programs will be offered at Ivy Tech’s 23 full-service campuses in addition to the learning sites in Wabash, Greencastle, Connersville and Batesville, Ind., while not all programs will be available at each site.

Ivy Tech’s name was officially changed to Ivy Tech State College in 1995.

In 1999, Ivy Tech entered into a partnership with Vincennes University to form the Community College of Indiana. The partnership ended and Ivy Tech was rechartered in 2005 to be known as a system of community colleges named Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana. Ivy Tech has many affiliations with various colleges around the state, both two and four year colleges.
