Two cups of tea a day to help keep overian cancer away
Women who like drinking tea can rejoice. Studies by researchers from Sweden and published in the Archives of Internal Medicine have found evidence that a few cups of tea a day might reduce the risk of development of ovarian cancer cells.
For 15 years culminating in 2004, 61,057 women between 40 to 70 years of age were given questionnaire meant to track their dietary habits. The researchers analyzed the data gathered and discovered that women who drank two or more cups of tea everyday had 46% less chances of developing ovarian cancer compared to those who did not drink any tea.
Surprisingly the researchers also found that black tea seemed to be more helpful than the usual tea with milk. This is perhaps because polyphenols is found both in green as well as black tea, but missing in milk tea. Polyphenols have widely been accepted to be substances the help repair those damaged cells which leads to cancer.
The researchers, Susanna Larsson and Licja Wolk of Karolinska Institute in Stokholm, however, advised caution since the research does not link other possibilities with the findings e.g. it could be that those who drink tea also have a healthy way of life that includes exercise and other healthy foods etc. The researchers have advised more study on the subject to sort out any contradictions since research regarding relation between drinking tea and cancer has always yielded conflicting results.
The findings, if confirmed to be true by further tests, will prove to be important since every year more than 20,000 women in the U.S fall prey to ovarian cancer.
