Moderate exercise good enough for healthy heart
There is good news for all you lazy bones. According to a research published in the journal Crest, the amount of exercise you do may actually be more important than the intensity of the exercise when it comes to keeping your heart in good shape.
The study explored that even mild exercising can enhance your aerobic fitness and reduce the chances of contracting heart ailments. This was found after experiments conducted on obese men and women who have been generally allergic to even moderate exercising.
The research conducted among 133 overweight men and women uncovered the pleasant observation that light, judicious exercises like running briskly for 12 miles per week can improve your heart fitness in a big way. Anyone performing exercises of higher amount is likely to be rewarded with better results.
To comprehend the effects of diverse quantity of exercises on aerobic fitness, Brian D. Duscha of Duke University Medical Center in Durham and team conducted this experiment on men and women whose cholesterol levels were on the rise.
The trail carried out for 7 to 9 months assigned different levels of exercising to the subjects. Some were given no exercises, others moderate exercises like 12-miles a week walking and the rest high intensity training (20 miles per week jogging).
A very important factor of this experiment was that during the tenure none of the participants changed their eating habits.
At the end of the specified period, it was found that all the participants had better oxygen consumption and their ability to cope with fatigue levels had also improved after they underwent this test.
More importantly, though, the ones who were given higher intensity exercises did not get exceptionally better results than the light exercisers. But when the quantity of exercising was increased from 12 to 20 miles, the difference was definitely evident.
One more observable fact was that the improvement in heart health was without any weight loss.
Stressing on the significance of exercising, Duscha explained that people put on 3 to 4 pounds annually and so exercise is essential for proper weight maintenance.
He concludes that it is important to advocate gentle exercises even to people who do not normally exercise as it's good for a healthy heart and, as such, they will be at a lower risk of being struck by cardiovascular hazards.
