Nintendo Wii adjudged as the best at E3

LOS ANGELES - Nintendo's forthcoming games console Wii has been voted by critics as the Best of Show at the recently concluded Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).

Game enthusiasts had flocked to Nintendo's stall at the E3 in great numbers and waited patiently to get their hands on the console. They later praised it sleek features in addition o its unique one-hand controller.

"It's a great story and it's something different," said Geoff Keighley, co-chairman of the Game Critics Awards. "It proves that you don't necessarily have to spend $20 billion on a big blockbuster game to stay competitive and get attention."

This year, judges from 37 media outlets decided the awards and picked up the best hardware as well as games on display at the E3.

Reacting to being adjudged the best, Nintendo America President Reggie Fils-Aime said in a statement, "It's extremely gratifying to hear independent confirmation that our approach resonates so dramatically with the people who know video games best. These multiple awards demonstrate which company has momentum and which products will be in the highest demand this holiday season."

Nintendo's Wii Sports also picked up the best sports category award. The game allows users to play games like tennis and baseball by swinging their controllers.

Spore, by Maxis-Electronic Arts for PC was also praised by the critics and won the Best Original Game, Best PC Game and Best Simulation game awards.

-Best Console Game, Gears of War - Epic Games, Microsoft Games Studio for Xbox 360.
-Best Handheld Game, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Nintendo for Nintendo DS.
-Best Action Game, Gears of War - Epic Games, Microsoft Games Studio for Xbox 360.
-Best Role Playing Game, Mass Effect - Bioware, Microsoft Games Studio for Xbox 360.
-Best Racing Game, Excite Truck - Monster Games, Nintendo for Wii.
-Best Sports Game, Wii Sports - Nintendo for Wii.
-Best Fighting Game, Heavenly Sword - Ninja Theory, Sony for PlayStation 3.
-Best Strategy Game, Supreme Commander - Gas Powered Games, THQ for PC.
-Best Puzzle-Trivia-Parlour Game, Guitar Hero 2 - Harmonix, Red Octane for PlayStation 2.
-Best Online Multiplayer, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars - Splash, Damage, id, Activision for PC.
