Apple announces service plans for iPhones

Apple announced new details of its iPhone service, a day before its launch in the United States. Three service plans were announced by Apple and AT&T, which the provider says will be affordable by all.

The basic plan can be acquired for just $59.99 per month while the high-end plan costs around $100 per month. Users will be able to enjoy Visual Voicemail, unlimited data, roll-over minutes, unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling and 200 SMS/text messages with all the three plans.

Users of the $79.99 and $99.99 plans can enjoy unlimited night and weekend minutes while users with the basic plan will be given a 5,000-minute allowance. Apple has also announced a number of family plans which range from $80 for 700 shared minutes to $120 for 2,100 shared minutes.

Announcing the plans Apple CEO Steve Jobs said, "We want to make choosing a service plan simple and easy, so every plan includes unlimited data with direct Internet access, along with Visual Voicemail and a host of other goodies."

Randall Stephenson, chairman and CEO, AT&T said that his company has invested more than $16 billion in wireless network for the last two years, adding that iPhone customers will be able to enjoy "best voice and data network in the country."

Users will be able to activate their iPhones for a standard rate of $36. Apple revealed that users can activate their phones through the company's iTunes program on either their Mac or Windows computers instead of waiting in the stores.
