iPhone gets off to a good start in spite of activation glitches
American mobile service provider, AT&T has announced nearly 100 percent sales of iPhones in its stores across the country, stating that most of the initial stock has been grabbed up by expectant customers who had lined-up before the gadget's launch on Friday evening.
"AT&T Inc. sold almost all its initial stock of Apple Inc.'s iPhone within hours of the device going on sale. Virtually all of our stores sold out of the iPhone last night", AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel revealed. The service provider has over 1,800 stores all over the country.
Gene Munster, analyst at Piper Jaffray, believes that Apple has managed to sell over 500,000 units of iPhones over the weekend, nearly double of the 200,000 units estimated. More than 95 percent of buyers preferred the 8GB model, which is priced at $600 a piece.
Most of the buyers are delighted with the device and said that many of their friends were now hankering over buying their own iPhone. Says Jerry Gregory, a New York private detective, "It's awesome, it's the best thing I ever saw in my life. Once people see this phone they are going to want one. Everybody I show this phone wants one, even people who were anti-iPhone."
However iPhone's launch was not perfect, with a number of customers unhappy that both AT&T and Apple were unable to activate their devices. Siegel admitted that some of the users were unable to activate their iPhones, but added that the company is sorting out the problem on a "case-by-case" basis.
"'There are some whose activation process is being delayed and that's something that can happen in a launch like this and we're resolving those on a case-by-case basis", he said.
