WiNetworks Demonstrates WiMAX Mobile TV and Video on Demand at IBC Exhibition in Amsterdam
IBC Exhibition, AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, September 8 -- WiNetworks Inc., a leader in integrated WiMAX (IEEE 802.16 d/e) and Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) technologies, will demonstrate at IBC2006 the 802.16e-2005 mobile WiMAX solution delivering ubiquitous mobile broadband to handheld devices. The WiNetworks patented Hybrid WiMAX DVB (HWDV(TM)) technology creates a two-way broadband network with an always-on return channel allowing two-way interactive services, Video on Demand, interactive TV, mobile TV and triple play services.
A full mobile TV experience will be demonstrated in cooperation with NDS, a leading supplier for secure delivery of entertainment and information to television set-top boxes, IP and mobile devices. Combining the NDS mobile TV solution with the WiNetworks WiMAX technology creates a complete end-to-end mobile TV system that is tightly integrated with the operator's existing TV headend. Content is encrypted and together with program guide information sent over the Winetworks' mobile WiMAX network to enabled devices - wherever they may be. The NDS handset client allow users to receive the encrypted TV multicast, decrypt it and tune into live TV on the go. The mobile TV experience can also be extended to in-car devices providing a complete TV experience on the go.
"The joint NDS-WiNetworks solution enables operators to enhance their offering with "video centric" services including two-way interactive STBs, video-on-demand, content push to DVR STBs, and quadruple play in the form of mobile TV", remarks Joseph Deutsch, VP of Product Marketing for NDS.
"We are proud to be demonstrating our 802.16e-2005 mobile applications and joint NDS mobile TV solution," states Mr. Effi Atad, CEO of WiNetworks, "Our mobile solutions open up the potential to deliver the broadest range of on-demand services ever, for the minimum infrastructure costs."
WiNetworks will also demonstrate Cable Operator solutions using the WiNetworks technology to extend HFC infrastructures to mobile WiMAX enabling the delivery of voice, video and data to mobile devices. While video and data are delivered over traditional cable infrastructures, the full scope of mobile services (including telephony, data, Video on Demand, interactive TV) are enabled over the WiMAX network to the mobile devices.
WiNetworks demonstrations of mobile TV and Cable solutions will take place on stand #3.324. NDS is exhibiting the joint solution alongside other exhibited efforts on stand #1.171.
