Summit to be held to tackle power management on Linux
The Linux Foundation launched the "Green Linux" initiative during the Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit last week in an attempt to improve the power management of Linux operating system.
Among the number of other issues discussed during the summit was the ongoing threat by Microsoft to file a patent infringement lawsuit against Linux companies. The summit was held at the Google Mountain View, Calif. campus and over 230 members of the Linux community attended the summit, including kernel developers, ISVs and users.
A meeting between a group of power developers has been scheduled to take place in Ottawa next week. The Linux Foundation released a statement in which it revealed that the project will be to find a solution for power management for mobile, desktop and server systems.
"Making Linux 'green' is becoming ever more important in all aspects of Linux adoption: mobile, desktop and server. The Linux Foundation will work with its workgroups, identify key projects and co-ordinate resources among its members to improve this functionality in the Linux platform. Power management developers will meet next week in Ottawa to continue work in this area", the organization said in a statement.
The Linux Foundation also unveiled its new Device Driver Kit, which will improve the printing functionality of the operating system by providing tools and resources to support Linux distributions on a single driver package. A problem-solving session was also conducted on device drivers during the summit.
