Google introduces 'Onsite Advertiser Sign-Up' for Adsense

Leading web portal Google Inc on Friday officially launched the "Onsite Advertiser Sign-Up" feature through which AdSense publishers can persuade small advertisers to directly position ad campaigns on their site. The "Onsite Advertiser Sign-Up" process is an expansion of Google's site-targeted advertising program AdSense, launched this year.

The idea, which was put to test back in September, automatically adds an "Advertise on this site" link to the ads exhibited by AdSense publishers. When prospective advertisers click the link, it opens a Google-hosted page which the publisher can personalize. This page allows advertisers to sign up for a new AdWords account or even insert a site-targeted ad campaign to their current account. In Site-targeted campaigns, it is possible to post picture advertisements.

Earlier, advertisers who wished to promote their products on web sites compliant with Google's syndicated AdSense advertising arrangement had to register themselves via Google's AdWords program by listing out the sites on which they desired to place their ads.

Explaining the new procedure, Satya Patel, product manager at Google, reveals that making use of this modernized process, both the new and existing advertisers will be able to build a campaign exclusively for that publisher's site.

Ad publishers have the option of customizing the destination page for links with their own logo, color scheme and site description. As of now, the publishers can only customize one landing page per AdSense account notwithstanding the number of sites they operate. Publishers do have the option of not displaying "Advertise on this site" link if they wish to.

This new addition comes as Google's AdSense program is in a fierce competition with Yahoo's publisher network offering for smaller sites.

Ads created through Onsite Advertiser Sign-Up would be competing in the same auction as all other Google ads, like the keyword cost-per-click text and picture ads, and site-targeted cost-per-thousand impression. In addition, ad publishers and Google will also be entitled to a part of the revenue.

The chief aim of this new advertising feature is to permit sites to be in closer contact with smaller advertisers while the production and billing processes would be taken care of by Google's automated software.

However, the management of Google's ad system isn't clear. While others like Yahoo and Kanoodle have translucent ad systems, Google has decided to keep its functioning methods muted. The web giant, Google, procures a mammoth 99 percent of its income from advertising sales.
