Just not kidding! It's a Disney MP3 player for kids!
Walt Disney Co. has entered the digital music industry by launching the portable MP3 player for kids and teenagers named Disney Mix Sticks. Thus Apple Computer Inc., the only other player in this segment, has now found a competitor.
Priced at $ 49.99, this handy music player has a storage capacity of 128 MB available entirely through a memory card and can play songs sold on small memory cards. It can also accommodate an extra 1 GB memory cards if it is required.
It can hold approximately 60 songs but the number can go up to 500 with little adjustments. It also facilitates standard digital downloading and subsequently storing it in its built in digital memory. It is expected to hit the stores by mid October 2005 along with four more mix clip titles.
This is Disney's second product in the digital market after it launched its first desktop PC last year. It was also designed keeping primarily the kids in mind. With a few other big names like Dell and Sony also entering the market, it remains to be seen who all can curve a niche for themselves as and when the competition heightens.
Disney's obvious aim would be to take the new model into a height hitherto unknown in children's entertainment, but others should also be thinking in similar lines. As Chris Heatherly, Vice President, Disney Electronics, pointed out, "Digital music is exploding and is ready to take off with kids. For the first time, we're able to deliver a real digital music player for kids under $50."
