Chief Executive of Google Eric Schmidt who is also a former employee of Sun Microsystems and Sun's boss Scott McNealy met the media to make public some of their future plans. Google will distribute and promote Sun's Open Office suite called StarOffice 8 along with the latter's Java software.

Sun, on the other hand, will obviously look to leverage Google's popularity to reach out to a wider consumer base. Meanwhile, Google is also trying to expand its space beyond Web search services. But both did not reveal as to how Sun's software would be distributed by Google.

Also, Google toolbar will be made available to all the users who would download Sun's Java Runtime Environment package. Eric Schmidt was hopeful of increasing its user base when he said, “the Google Toolbar will be downloaded by tens of millions of people as a result of this partnership".

But neither the stock markets nor the industry analysts were feeling upbeat after this press meet as both the honchos did not divulge more details regarding their partnership.
