Logitech introduces two new cordless mice with advanced features
SAN FRANCISCO: Swiss computer accessories maker Logitech International SA has introduced two new mice for desktop and laptop systems with an innovative feature -- a free-spinning motorized scroll wheel, which is expected to help people sift through pages on computer screens at a very fast pace.
The products, MX Revolution for desktops and VX Revolution for laptops, are cordless laser mice and compatible with Macs and PCs, the company announced. They will be priced at $99.99 and $79.99 respectively.
Logitech said the scroll wheel, called MicroGear Precision Scroll Wheel, is made of alloy and spins for up to seven seconds, enabling the user to move quickly through webpages, spreadsheets, playlists and other data. The seven-second spin can yield as many as 10,000 lines in a MS Excel spreadsheet. In conventional scroll wheels, it takes about 500 spins and some seven minutes to go through the same amount of lines.
There is a one-touch search as a feature in these mice, which allows the user to do an internet search for words or phrases in webpages and documents.
The company said the desktop model can automatically switch to the conventional click-scrolling depending on the application. It can also toggle back and forth on its own during a task depending on how fast the user is working. A software program will be installed on the user's computer to determine what application is running and to communicate the information to the mouse.
In the laptop model, users will have to use a switch on the base of the mouse to toggle between modes. This is mainly because of the smaller size of the mouse.
