LOS ANGELES - Singer-actress Brandy appears to be in further trouble after the family of a woman killed in a crash involving her filed a lawsuit seeking $50 million in compensatory and punitive damages.

The December 30 accident saw Brandy rear-ending her Land Rover into Awatef Aboudihaj's car, which then smashed into a third car before hitting a fourth car. The victim was 38 years old and a married mother of one. Her family filed a lawsuit at the Los Angeles County Superior Court 24 hours after police recommended that vehicular manslaughter charges be brought against Brandy.

The California Highway Patrol also said that the 27-year-old Brandy must be charged with misdemeanor. Brandy's spokesman Allan Mayer said that she felt for the family, "The accident was a terrible tragedy and Brandy's heart goes out to Awatef Aboudihaj's family. But for legal reasons we cannot comment on this lawsuit."

CHP spokeswoman Tang said that alcohol and drugs were not involved in the crash and that Brandy was not using a mobile phone. She was alone in the car.

If the District Attorney's office presses charges, then Brandy faces one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
