The 30 Year Old Grandpa: Inspirational Reality?
Demi Moore's wedding to Ashton Kutcher on September 24, 2005 was low-key and private, but the ideas it has generated in Ashton's head are surely going to the public soon. Ashton Kutcher has generated an idea of a series which amazingly resembles the couple's real life. He will co-produce the series with Kary Burke and Jason Goldberg from Katalyst Television, under the Twentieth Century Fox Television banner. Holly Hester of “The Drew Carey Show” fame, will write the series.
Demi and Ashton met in 2003 and have been going steady since, with the former being entangled in an impending divorce with Bruce Willis, her husband before this marriage. This is Demi's third marriage but for Ashton it is new ground, although he's been in a couple of relationships before. The couple finally consummated their two year romance in wedlock this September, with the divorce from Willis finally coming through.
Demi has three children from her earlier marriage and here, one can guess, is where the inspirational element creeps in for Ashton. His new series, tentatively called “The 30 year old Grandpa” centers around a 30 year old pub owner in Chicago, involved with a forty plus business woman. They marry and then the pregnancy comes to light.
Funnily, the wife's daughter from an earlier marriage, all of 22, also conceives and decides to come home to bear and bring up her child. Suddenly, the protagonist is a would be father and grandfather, and even as the complexity of his circumstances hit him, the hilarious splash of the story promises to tickle the audience no end.
Karey Burke, Ashton's producing partner, describes the situation as “a very modern, messy look at an extended American family,".
The story bears resemblance to the true life tale of Kutcher, who, just 27, is now stepfather to Demi's three daughters, Rumer, 17, Scout, 14 and Tallulah, 11. However, Demi and Ashton do not have children together as of yet. They have been consistently denying rumours of a pregnancy, but Demi is reported to have told Harper's Bazaar in an interview that they are keen for family expansion. Moore has gone on record, naming Kutcher as her "soul mate".
The incipient story of the series began as a mother-daughter tale of simultaneous pregnancies, and has been subsequently moved on to focus on the comic angle of the lead man caught amongst a tricky situation, to say the least. However, apart from the resemblance to Ashton's real life vagaries, the base plot is not really about Demi and Ashton's life as a couple.
Also on the anvil is a parallel show called Parenteen, from Katalyst Televsion, under Twentieth Century Fox. This show is all about the twists and turns and navigations of a parent-teenager relationship. As they say, probably Ashton could do with some of the wisdom imparted on the show, now that he has some responsibility to attend to.
Demi and Ashton caught everyone's attention first in June 2003, when the couple and Bruce Willis, with his three daughters, arrived together for the premiere of Demi's comeback flick, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.
Ashton is also an ardent follower of Hollywod's latest fad religion Kabbalah.Seems he has enough on his hands to last a lifetime now.
