Crowe And Cruise Come Together To Tell A Touching Tale
Writer Director Cameron Crowe has chosen none other than the charming Tom Cruise to produce his latest directorial venture Elizabethtown. Elizabethtown is a tender tale about a young man coping with his father's sudden death, a theme to which both Crowe and Cruise can relate.
British actor Orlando Bloom will play the lead role of Drew Baylor, a young man who on receiving the news of his father's sudden death sets out to Elizabethtown to collect his remains. A sentimental journey of losing and finding follows. Kirsten Dunst plays the starry-eyed airhostess who brings love to the forlorn Drew.
Both Crowe and Cruise have undergone the anguish of losing their fathers at an early age. This movie is an attempt by Crowe to come to terms with the unsaid words and the unexpressed feelings that have been waiting to come out of his heart. Crowe believes that Cruise would be able to lend his sentiment and sensibility to the movie.
Elizabethtown is set in the hushed locales of Kentucky, a place that holds great significance both for Crowe and for Cruise. “Tom and I have a similar sensibility and experience. You know his dad was from Kentucky where I set the film, and so was mine”, says Crowe feelingly. Cruise and Crowe have worked together in Jerry Maguire (1996) and Vanilla Sky (2001) and share a great understanding and friendship.
Crowe who won the Oscar for the screenplay he did for Almost Famous in 2001 believes that it would be a challenge to make an emotional movie, which is based on a sad theme, yet has a promising touch.
