'Aeon Flux' makes a stealth opening

The producers of 'Aeon Flux', must be hoping they are as smart as the super-athletic action heroine by denying critics a preview of the film. The film opens today to a great deal of excitement built up by the promos but minus any informed guide (read reviews) that could likely enhance the experience of enjoying the movie. The producers of 'Aeon Flux', must be hoping they are as smart as the super-athletic action heroine by denying critics a preview of the film. Regardless of the reason why they decided against a preview, the film starring the startlingly beautiful Charlize Theron, has whipped up quite an interest. It even promises to live up to the expectations raised by all the hype it generated despite history suggesting otherwise.

Movie hall managers consider the 'no-preview' a bad sign. Even studios, who generally welcome any kind of publicity, good or bad agree that reviews contribute to the success of a film. With no competition at the box office this weekend (it is the only one to be released) and with the festive season ahead the film is very likely to max its box office collection in the coming weeks.

'Aeon Flux' is a sci-fiction action thriller made by Karyn Kusuma the maker of the critically acclaimed 'Girlfight'. The screenplay was written by Phil hay and Matt Manfredi of 'Crazy/beautiful' and 'The Tuxedo'. Going by the stills being circulated and the commercials as part of the promo campaign, one expects stunning sets and breath-taking cinematography. It does remind one of the Matrix films with their unusual sets, action and camerawork. From the Aeon Flux commercials, one notices much more grace and inventiveness than one has seen in any sci-fi flick till date.

The film is set in 2415 when the earth's population is decimated by disease. The survivors live in a walled and protected city-state that is run by a group of scientists. The main character Aeon Flux, played by Theron, is a top operative in an underground rebellion led by The Handler (Frances McDormand). When she is sent on a mission to assassinate she uncovers many secrets that weave the narrative and lead to a climax.

The film is believed to be inspired from Peter Cheung's series of animated shorts 'Liquid TV' shown on MTV that gained a cult status among its viewers.

Theron, who is passionate about ballet is expected to lend grace to her portrayal of the acrobatic action heroine. Her recent success - her portrayal of a mineworker who sues her boss on charges of sexual harassment in “North Country” has put the actress on the A-list of Hollywood stars.

The film also stars Frances McDormand, Caroline Chikezie, Amelia Warner, Johny Lee Miller, Marton Csokas, Sophie Okonedo and Pete Postlewaite.

Ummm...,

Oscar nomimations aren't even out yet for this year (as the year isn't over) so it seems like it'd be a little difficult for Charlize to have already won the Oscar for North County which the article states like its some kind of fundamental truth. I'm sure the author meant to reference her 2003 Oscar win for Monster but it still a frustrating mistake for readers who now have to wonder about the accuracy of everything else in the article.
