Eminem's Curtain Call debuts at No 1

NEW YORK - A Detroit paper had reported that Curtain Call: The Hits would be Eminem's last album and the rapper was quitting music for good. However Em has clarified that he would just be taking a break and would be promoting other creative ventures instead.

The album however has stormed to the top of Billboard's charts notching up 441,000 in sales. In 2004, his Encore had raked up 711,000 in sales, while in 2002; The Eminem Show sold over a million in the opening week. The current sales boom could be attributed to the Grammy nominations capping a hectic week in the music industry.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, Lil' Wayne came in second on the charts with sales of 240,000 for Tha Carter II album. Korn's See You on the Other Side raked up 200,000 in sales to come into the third spot. Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" was at the fifth spot, while "Now That's What I Call Music 20" slipped to the fourth position from the first position. This album is in its sixth week on the charts.

Kenny Chesney's "The Road and the Radio" was sitting pretty at number six, while "All the Right Reasons" of Nickelback was at the seventh spot. Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi", "Monkey Business", by The Black Eyed Peas and Enya's "Amarantine" were at the eighth, ninth and the tenth spots respectively.

The report also said that the overall CD sales in the country were ahead by 24 percent last week, but were still 10 percent behind what was recorded at the same time last year. Overall, the album sales for the current year are lagging by 12 percent as compared ro the last year.
