indie fever set to grip Park City, Utah on Thursday

The Sundance Film Festival, America's premier festival for independent cinema, kicks off January 19th at Park City, Utah. The Sundance Film Festival, America's premier festival for independent cinema, kicks off January 19th at Park City, Utah.

This year on the offering here are 120 feature films in fiction and nonfiction category along with 73 short movies.

Besides, a lot of star power is also descending from the Hollywood. 'Friends With Money', of the indie veteran Nicole Holofcener, having in its star-cast the mainstream star Jennifer Aniston will premiere the opening night.

Speaking about it Holofcener said: “Thrilled and petrified. Equal measures of both. Thrilled because I have a history with Sundance, which made this feel special and like a real honor.”

The pictures with a lot of promise include “Little Miss Sunshine” starring funnyman Steve Carell. Warner Independent Pictures' Paul Federbush says about it: “It might go for too much money. It's hard not to get caught up in the frenzy.”

In the documentaries section, one can look forward to the Beastie Boys' 'Awesome I F---in' Shot That' and 'All Aboard: Rosie's Family Cruise'.

Also favorites of critics like Maggie Gyllenhaal, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Ryan Gosling are featured in this year's round-up which is sure to turn the heat on.

The comedy film 'The Darwin Awards', starring, Joseph Fiennes Metallica and Winona Ryder is also being looked forward to keenly as it has been produced by Sundance vet Finn Taylor.

He said: “I hope people are buying into the unique script and characters. We realized as the process unfolded that the studios would make a watered-down version of what we wanted to do. A watered-down version of 'The Darwin Awards' wouldn't be funny.”

Also interestingly anticipated is Director Davis Guggenheim's “An Inconvenient Truth” charting former Vice President Gore's campaign to convince people about the dangers of global warming.

The swan song for this year would be Nick Cassavetes's "Alpha Dog," which is about a group of under-aged junkies who resort to kidnapping.
