Tom Cruise, Jenny McCarthy are the ''big winners'' at the Razzies
HOLLYWOOD - The 26th annual Razzie Awards threw no surprises as the Jenny McCarthy-starrer "Dirty Love" picked up the worst movie of the year 2005 award. "Dirty Love" also picked up the Worst Actress and Worst Screenplay (dis)honors.
McCarthy's husband and co-producer John Asher was adjudged as the worst director. The Razzies, which took place at Ivar Theatre in Hollywood, are an annual spoof-up of the Academy Awards and honor the worst of Hollywood a day before the best pick up their prizes. The Razzies shot to fame last year when Halle Berry made an unprecedented entrance to collect her award. There were no such surprises this year, but it was great fun nonetheless.
Tom Cruise's antics on Oprah's couch and his subsequent mooning over fiancée Katie Holmes earned him the most tiresome tabloid award. The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation chairman John Wilson described "Dirty Love" by saying, "the bastard child that might have resulted had John [Bolero] Derek and Tom [Freddy Got Fingered] Green spent the winter together tending sheep on Brokeback Mountain."
The film could collect only $58,116 in theatres after its release and understandably was soon binned. Rob Schneider earned himself the worst actor prize for "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo."
Paris Hilton won for worst supporting actress award for "Son of the Mask," while Hayden Christensen took home the worst supporting actor award for "Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith."
