NEW YORK - Boeing Co. has announced that it will be building a stretch version of its 787 Dreamliner jet, which has completely wowed airlines around the world. The 787 has proved to be a fuel-efficient aircraft and revived Boeing's fortunes last year allowing it to take on Airbus in the wide-body aircraft segment.

HAMBURG, Germany - The Airbus A380 superjumbo jet passed a safety evaluation test yesterday as 853 passengers and 20 crew members were able to exit a Lufthansa AG plane on slides in a darkened hangar. But 32 people suffered minor injuries and one man broke his leg in the drill, in which every passenger was evacuated in 80 seconds.

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The US Navy has clashed with suspected pirates off the Somali coast on Saturday, killing one pirate and wounding several others. Seven pirates were taken into custody, but there were no injuries among sailors, the Navy said.

WASHINGTON - Federal investigators have revealed that pilot errors and overwork was responsible for the fatal crash of Corporate Airlines Flight 5966, which killed all the crew and 11 of the 13 passengers on October 19, 2004.

CHICAGO - It has emerged that the pilot of the Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 that skidded to a halt on the street near the Midway International Airport last week had engaged an automatic brake instead of a manual one. The incident claimed the life of a 6-year-old boy called Joshua Woods, whose funeral service is scheduled to be held on Wednesday.

The Transport Security Administration (TSA) has proposed to relax the ban on passengers carrying small tools on flights, things like scissors, wrenches and screw-drivers, that were disallowed on planes after 9/11. The move has met with disapproval from flight attendants and some Congressmen.
